#1 Salmon Port on Lake Michigan

Tell Your Legislator to Vote NO on HB 5801 and 5802
Every fishing license you've ever bought. Every rod, reel, and tackle box taxed at the register. That money brought Michigan's lake trout, walleye, and perch back from the brink — building a $4 BILLION sport fishing economy all with recreational angler dollars!
HB 5801 & 5802 proposes to give a handout to the shrinking commercial fishing industry — for the first time in modern history allowing commercial harvest of lake trout, walleye and perch — without a single dime of that investment.
Let that sink in: the entire Michigan commercial fishing industry generates barely $10 million a year. These bills would risk a $4 billion sport fishery to benefit an industry 400 times smaller. That's not a trade-off — that’s a bad deal for Michigan!
And here's what makes it worse: for nearly 60 years, recreational anglers have been subsidizing commercial fishing regulation — because the commercial industry doesn't even pay its own way. The new fees proposed in HB 5801 & 5802? They don't come close to covering their fair share. Michigan's anglers have been footing that bill for six decades, and now the ask is to hand over the fish we paid to restore on top of it.
This is YOUR fish. YOUR dollars. YOUR heritage. We can't let that happen.
It took 60 years to bring these fish back. It won't take long to lose them again.
Contact your Michigan legislator TODAY and demand a NO vote on HB 5801 & 5802. It takes 2 minutes at legislature.mi.gov — and it matters.
